Been a long time. . .

I shouldn't have left you without. . .
Some savory bits to munch on in my absence. . .forgive me.

School is over for the semester and I did as I thought I would (an A and a C). I am in the process of registering for 2 more classes, although they are already full and I will most likely be wait-listed :-(
But I guess that is better than not trying at all. . .
Work is. . . Well work is, ummm where do I start?

It is 12/21/2009 and I can not wait for the holiday season to be OVER. I am not usually a SCROOGE but working as a retail slave I have become very bitter in the past two years. I have been subjected to all kinds of low lives that get to treat me as if I am nothing, just because it is assumed that my purpose is to submit myself to the will of the customer.
I am OVER it!!! I am SOOO ready to move on to a field outside of retail and customer service. I am so over an industry that legalizes one sided verbal abuse, all because the customer is supposed to be number one. Where I work it seems as if the rules change based on the customer, I am to do whatever I can to accommodate the customer and avoid confrontation. REALLY?!?!? If I walk into a store and start raising kane because I feel like it, they are not gonna bow down and give me what I want but instead they will most likely call security after asking me to vacate the premises.
I was recently written up because a older embitter black woman customer wanted extra shopping bags to transport her purchase in, I showed her the options we offer (with and with/out cost) and she rejected them and insisted that I give her more shopping bags because she wanted them (she purchased one 8oz bottle of anti-bacterial hand soap, and 2 pairs of shea infused socks. . . for a GRAND total of $12!!!) and told me that if she had separated her purchase she would have received 2 bags anyway. I explained to her that yes, indeed she would have received 2 bags but one would have been the bag that I had previously offered her or I would have asked, for the environment's sake, to put everything into the already over-sized bag that her items were in. She kept going on and I said fine, here's your bag, have a GREAT day!!! She complained to my manager, and then walked up behind me with "Merry Christmas to you too, but you NEED to learn to watch your attitude with customers!". I said ma'am, have a good day and the door is that way!
My manager attempted to cool down and then called me to the back room where he began to YELL at me as if he had lost his ever loving mind! She's a customer, lose the attitude, give then what they want, you need them they don't need you, if you can't do your job quit, this is it. . . and the like. I was sent home to "think about my actions". Come to find out customers and associates on the sales floor as well as people near the service door heard the assault!!!

I am supposed to take that day in and day out and NEVER crack? I think not! When and where do I get to release all of my pent up anger? Why is it that I have to shrug off the rudeness and crudeness of customers because I do not know what they are going through (my favorite line from my manager- because people are apprehensive about spending money because most people don't have it) when they could give 2 shits about what I am going through? Am I not a person as well with a beating heart pumping blood through veins to keep organs functioning? Or does my apron, uniform, name tag, position behind the cash register automatically make me a drone?

I wish that EVERYONE was required to work in the retail/ customer service industry for one year early on in life, so that they would have a greater understanding and respect for those of us that are there right now!
More importantly I wish that I could organize all people that work in customer service/ retail across the board and organize a strike!!! Not only would we not work, but we would refuse to shop!!! We have to hit their pockets!!!
Enough thoughts of anarchy today. . . but stay tuned!!!

Just remember that not everyone that is working in retail is trying to make retail a career. Keep pushing someone that feels they have no way out no options, no say, and they will snap and break. It's gonna come down to you or them. . . One day, sooner or later, that associate that you accused of having an attitude,or not smiling enough, not shucking and jiving enough or that employee that you lost your cool with, is going to be the one that holds YOUR LIFE in the balance (as the cop that pulls you over for a DUI, the doctor in the ER, the public defender in your court case, the coroner that is doing the autopsy. . .) in one way or another!!!

Fall must haves

Although, I hate to see summer go, I do love the fashion trends of fall. I love the rich textures of wool, and cashmere and the deep hues of olive greens, grapes, and mustard yellows. I also love that after a blow out my hair stays straight for more than 2 weeks!!!
This year I love these 5 things the most about fall fashion:

1. Leggings and tights- they are a staple in my wardrobe. I love to wear dresses and tunics and colorful leggings and tights take my plain jane black work dresses from drab to fab in seconds. Plus, fishnets, are given an extra pop when layered over them. They also work out as light control in the midsection smoothing you out in dresses and underneath closer fitting pants. NY and CO leggings.

2. Metallic/Matte nail polish- flat, true color without all the glitter and sparkle. Plain and simple!!! From white to black and golds, silvers, and grays. (your local beauty supplier should have a wide variety of these, just ask, ranging from $1- $12, depending on brand) OPI Espana Collection
LA Girl Nail Polish
3. Knee and Thigh high boots- they are gorgeous and allow me to really draw attention to two of my best assets, my thighs and legs. I have really large calves, probably from all of that soccer playing in NJ, and I have found that softer leather is more forgiving around that area. I have also purchased leather boots enhanced with the elastic siding to make room for my calf muscles (fat, lol) as well. (for mid price range Nine West always has a nice selection of knee high and above boots in leather and suede; a bit higher and trendier would be BCBGirls). Tall Boots @ Nine West
DSW Over the knee boots

4. One shoulder dresses and shirts- why not? What woman does not love feeling young again by teasing the "boys" with a little, tasteful display of flesh. Long or short the shoulders have it!!! See one shoulder dresses.

5. Embellishments- a trend that you see year round, but that really makes a statement in the fall and winter seasons. Winter whites jazzed up with gold buttons or purple embroidery, bland tees are transformed into statement pieces with just a splash or hardware. You can take a perfectly blah black work dress and spice it up with a great studded belt and and "bead- dazzled" cardi and rock the night away!!! Check out the pictured belt.

This is not a list of rules... these are MY exceptions!!!
Find your own fun or borrow some of mine....
But as always... Happy Shopping!!!

Fall Fashion 2009!!!

So Fall is right around the corner and I have the dish for you. Do not be left out this Fall/Winter wearing last season or last year's fashions! I did some in mall research as well as magazine surfing to find out what is going to be the rave this Fall and here are my top 10:

1. The 80's are back and here to stay this Fall!!! Look out for the bold and optimistic statements that made this decade so unique. I am talking velvet bustiers, poufy mini-dresses, neon hues and stirrup leggings... Oh my!!! So just go back to your favorite 80's movie find the lead and mimic their style with a modern twist, do not get lost in the decade!!!

2. Style embellishment... it is a continuing trend from the spring/ summer. Bling out your clothing and accessories to give every outfit a bit of uniqueness and that extra umph! We will see an increase in hardware adorned gloves, bags, shoes and other accessories this season as well as an increase in hardware adorned layering items (vests, tanks...). Although it is the current trend, do not over do it or you will look like a chump.

3. Knee high, Over the knee, and Thigh high boots... The sky is the limit this Fall when it comes to the height of your boots, and the higher the better!!! Look for boots in GENUINE leather in shades such as olive greens, grays, creams/neutrals or Suedes in black, brown, gray, maroon, or just plain PRETTY. Shearling/ wool lined boots will also be key this season. AVOID- chunky heels and high sheen patent finishes if you do not want to be confused with your local "Ladies of the Night".

4. Capes, caplets, and cloaks... Will be seen all throughout the Fall season as a practical layering item that is completely fashionable. From cropped to ankle length, in all the colors and fibers of Fall.

5. Ponchos... are back with a vengeance. Similar to capes and caplets, but allow for a less formal layering item great with everything from jeans to skirts.

6. See through clothing- Be a tease by showing off what your mama gave you while still leaving something to the imagination, but not too much!

7. One Shoulder- Dresses and shirts are everywhere this fall. With and without frill and ruffles, embellished or stand alone these make a statement, by showing a little skin without being overly revealing.

8. Military inspired- Jackets, vests, hats. Be well tailored without having to go through boot camp. Often seen in khaki, navy blue, army green, browns, and blacks with brass, silver, and golden buttons and embellishments.

9. Metallics- Night and Day!!! Glitz and shine is no longer just for the night time, especially when it starts to get darker earlier. So, whip out your golds, silvers, coppers, pewters... all day ling and shine on.

10. Pops of Gold- Brighten up this fall/winter when paired with any fall color and trend.

AVOID AVOID AVOID-- DOUBLE DENIM!!!! It's just not sexy!!!

CoastalScents.com

So my first order from Coastal Scents arrived today and I am very happy. I placed my order Friday morning, it shipped Saturday and arrived on Tuesday, that is great turn around time. Shipping was reasonable ($1.56) and all my products arrived in tip top shape. I ordered 4 Hot pots(individual eye shadow) and a 4 plate palette. The payoff is great when used with a primer and a base and the color is long lasting. I was most impressed by my S13 pot which is a shimmery purple with pink undertones, next I like the S06 pot, it is not a dupe (fake out double) of MAC's Plum Dressing, but it is still really pretty and I have worn it almost everyday since it has arrived. S06 is a shimmery rose color that looks really great with nude or champagne colors like wood winked (MAC). My least favorite thus far has been the M13 which is a matte bubblegum pink. It lacks intensity no matter how much you pack on and what type of brush you use. I am going to to attempt tp use it as a blush... we will see how that goes. S20 is a slightly shimmery almost neon purple which I LUV!!! It is intense and looks great in a smokey eye with deep grapes such as Fertile (MAC) or blues like clarity (MAC). Exciting.
Overall I was really satisfied with my colors.
The palette is really cute as well. It has a matte black finish with no logo and the mirror is large enough for application. The pan itself is magnetic and there is a tiny pin well so that you can pop out one pot and replace it, that way you can have your fave 4 colors with you at all times. My only gripe is that it came with a double ended sponge applicator...ugh!!! A nice mini all over shader brush would have been perfect, but that's just me.
So ladies place your orders and start your make up adventure with coastal scents!!!

Until next time...

FYI... I have heard some good and bad things about the multi colored palettes so be cautious... this review was only for the hot pots.

How to's from Gurus!!!

Yes, I am a Face booker, My Spacer, and You Tuber, but why not. It is just like saying that I have a Costco (which I do), Kroger, Safeway, Harris Teeter, or CVS card (which I do). I say this because I use these social networking vehicles as they were intended... to network socially, play games, and learn how to. I do not use these sites as my personal eHarmony, or Chemistry.com's, because honestly you have better luck out on the street jogging, grocery shopping, at the mall, a upscale bar/lounge... to meet someone worthwhile. Anyway, so on YouTube.com one of my BFF's has opened my eyes completely to the world of how to's, especially in the make up categories. These people are AWESOME, at least most of them, they take you step by step though the processes to complete a certain look ( ie: The Smokey Eye). There are random people who feel that they have skills in an area and want to share, bless their hearts and then there are REAL supernaturally talented make up artists (MUAs), oh, and of course those talented people in between that just want to help others look great too (gotta love 'em). Type in what you need help or instruction on and they then check out some videos, once you find someone(s) you love or really trust, subscribe to their pages and take it all in. From start to finish they will guide you so that you come out looking like a pro!!!

Until next time...

The Lasting Affect of Imperialism

A few days ago while sitting in the kitchen eating breakfast, I was listening to a report on the increased amount of gang- style rapes in South Africa, by NPR. These rapes have nothing to do with gangs in the way that we in the west associate with gangs, the word was simply being used to describe the group or gathering of boys and men that come together to carry out these heinous acts. The top of the story focused on how a famous South African soccer player and activist, Eudy Simelane, was gang raped and murdered outside of Johannesburg because she was openly homosexual. Men there have taken it upon themselves to attempt to "cure" lesbians through rape, to insert masculinity between two women where there is none. On the flip side, young boys and men gang up on young girls and women who have spurned them or who they have drugged up and rape to prove their masculinity or to punish the victim. A reporter spoke to a group of South African men at a bar and they spoke candidly about how it is alright for them to carry on in this manner because most women do not report it, the woman has agreed to sleep with one of the men in the group, and due to the fact that many of the women are under the influence of alcohol and drugs given to them by the rapist, they do not oppose what is happening to them because they do not know what is happening to them. The government is looking into ways to improve communications between the community and law enforcement which is usually unsympathetic to women and girls who cry rape to make it more comfortable for women and girls who have been raped to come forward. A rape survivor and activist said that it is very important that young men and boys are taught in the home that rape is unacceptable and are allowed to express feelings of more than just anger to prevent the continuation of increased rapes. It was also noted that Apartheid was greatly at fault for creating many of the sexually abused men that project on to the women and girls today and even that developed some of the younger offenders of today. These men were never allowed to be men because they were always treated and referred to as "boy" by their white counterparts, so this is their way of asserting themselves now.
Imperialism and it's forced subjugation have left scars and many open wounds on South Africa that are so parallel to scars that African Americans have been trying to heal for centuries. Hopefully with the continued usage of fresh eyes on the developing situations we can finally find a solution and seriously begin to heal.

Until next time...

Coming Soon to A Blog Near You. . .

1. Coastalscents.com-- I heard of this sight through a YouTube.com make- up guru that said the colors and quality were comparable to MAC ( and we all know how much I dig MAC)but WAAAAAY less expensive, so I placed and order Friday July 31, 2009 12:15 am EST. Once the products arrive I will grade them and post a couple pics and an overall review of the experience!!!
2. Maybelline Pulse Perfect vibrating mascara-- Lancome was the first cosmetic line I remember seeing this product at ($31), so when Maybelline jumped on the bandwagon and reduced the price you know I was game.
3. Wild 'N Crazy and LA Girl v.s OPI, Essie, and Orly-- The former are 2 of my fave brands from my local beauty supplier and the latter are 3 national brands, i am going to see how the nail polishes stack up against each other. Is less more, or is more... MORE???
4. All you can request-- You name it and I will go out there and try it!!! Within reason people, lets be real.

Bath and Beauty on the cheap...

So I know with the current economic climate everyone is pinching pennies and stretching those dollars as far as they can possibly stretch before they POP... and so luxury items such as scented hand soaps, shower gels, and moisturizers are not exactly on the top of your list. In fact, I am quite sure that many of you have gone back to the basics and are using Suave or Irish springs because you can get them while you are shopping for your groceries and they are cheap. All the while your skin and your senses are aching for the jojoba, avocado, almond, and grape seed oils that it used to enjoy as well as the rich sensual ,fresh, warm and tantalizing fragrances that your nose used to swim in before the crash.
Well suffer your senses no more! Bath and Body works has introduced 3 limited time only lines that are ultra hydrating, fragrant, luxurious, and inexpensive!!! Launched in late May True Blue Spa Naked collection is a group of products that are so light and sheer that they are almost like a second skin and are designed to let you be totally covered in moisture but feel completely Naked. My favorite products are the whipped Shea butter body lotion- Cotton Dress and the cool and very sheen and silky body mist- Bare Skin. The entire line consists of cotton dress, bare skin, a shower gel, a moisturizing body mouse, and an exfoliating body souffle. True blue spa also launched Escape to Morocco early July. It consists of 2 moisturizers, both made with Shea butter, a warming body scrub made with cedar wood, 2 shower gels, and a moisturizing shower cream enriched with rose petals and orange flowers. I love this entire line the fragrances are all so new and sensual and the experience divine. My top 2 products are the Sweet fig and Argan body lotion for a light weight moisture and fragrance experience and the Sweet fig and Saffron shower gel for a bittersweet shower experience filled with soothing bubbles and scents. This line is great for men and women because the fragrances are so exotic and are not the typical floral and muskfragrances that we gender associate with here. The second best thing about these 2 collections is that they are now 50% off, so hurry in and stock up.
Aside from this collection there is a limited edition (for the summer season only) hand soap and body wash collection called American Grown. As it's name implies all of the ingredients are cultivated right here in the good old US of A. Everyday valued priced at $5 for the 16oz hand soap and $10 for the 24oz body wash. Of this collection I have not been able to live with out Napa Grape- Smells just like red wine (for all of you lushes out there), Washington Apple (you have never smelled a macintosh better than this), and Savannah Mint (julep, that is)!!!
So I said it before and I will say it again run in get what you love and live on smelling great while everyone tries to figure how.

Until next time...

P.s.: Now through August 23rd antibacterial hand soaps are 5/$15 ($3ea, save up to $10) or 7/$20 (2.85ea, save up to $15), water-less hand sanitizing gels are 5/$5 and foams are 2/$5!!! Stock up and save, give them as gifts, spread love not GERMS!!!

Who me...

I know it has been DECADES since my last post and I apologize for that. I am happy to say that your girl is making the right moves to SERIOUSLY get her stuff together. Tomorrow should find me registering for my fall semester at DTCC, and if you are not from NC, that is Durham Technical Comm College. I will then, with the grace of GOD, be transferring my credits to a local (in- state) university to... FINALLY finish my degree in biology!!!! So please excuse my absence, it was for (for the most part 8p) a great cause!!! Thank you to Keisha Smith for messaging, texting, and calling me about a new post. I assure you they are on the way and with me holding down about 12 credits, and 36 hours a week at work I am quite sure there will be much to discuss. To Michael... you are my idol and I am a punk ass blogger 8( lol.

BET Awards/ MJ Tribute show....

Honestly, I am usually a "wait until the week after the original show to watch it if I really feel like it or unless there is someone worth seeing " type of girl when it comes to the BET awards and most award shows for that matter. So naturally on Thursday when I heard the news of "The King of POP's" demise, while loading my belongings in to the trunk of one of my home girls trunk at Newark Liberty International Airport, I knew that the BET awards was going to have to undergo a drastic change to make it about MJJ, and I knew I was going to tune in via DVR.
So Sunday while waiting in Charlotte- Douglass Int'l Airport i frequently check facebook to see what my peers had to say about the show. As I expected, for no matter how much preparation seems to go into the BET awards it never seems to flow correctly, it was nothing short of a disaster... which is it's norm. I fully expected there to be minor glitches as the show's structure was rearranged to center on the one of the greatest artists of our time as well as continue to honor those that were already promised awards.
Overall I must say that it was just as flawed as it would have been had there been no changes made at all! Faulty microphones, ill placed cameras, missed cues, bad grammar, random performances that had nothing to do with recent songs or Michael (Beyonce... thanks???)... the list goes on.
I was appalled that the show opened up on such a horrible note, and i do mean NOTE with New Edition acting like they have never sung before. Look I know you need practice and all, but damn. Then there was Guy... enough said.
Contrary to popular belief on facebook Keisha Cole did a pretty decent job, of course Monica was on point, but she held her own and did not over sing or scream like normal. The only issue I really had was with her capris!!! WTF?!?!? For real girl?
Keri Hilson forgot who tribute was being paid to and she pulled out all of the stops to be Elvis... hmmm.
Jay Z brought performance back with Death to Autotune. Thank God that one of the Carters (Hov and B) knows how to act at the BET awards...

That will definitely be the last BET awards show that I watch for a LONG time!!! BET still owes Michael a tribute show, and hopefully one will go into the works for a couple WEEKS from now so that proper preparation... PRACTICE!!!

I have nothing else to say at this point...

RIP Michael... We love you and will never forget the impact that you have had on our lives, music, dance, humanitarianism, and so much more. He's outta of my life, outta of my life. I don't know whether to laugh or cry, I don't whether to Live or Die. Cause it cuts like a knife, he's outta of my life...

What would you do?

While doing the usual after church runs with my mother, I contemplated a question that was posed to me numerous times earlier that I could not answer...
So, I am going to pose the same question to you and (hopefully) you will have an answer or two...
If you could start your own business right now (in this economy, riiiight) what would it be and WHY??? For argument's sake lets say that the start up money is there and all you need to do is formulate the idea and proposal.

I said (later) I would be interested in starting my own employment agency. I ALWAYS have a job or two and I think it would be fun to make the contacts. Maybe a personal shopping firm- where we train shoppers and hire them out, there are too many non-stylish people out there for this not to work. Or I would become a life coach, it would be fun helping some one get their life together from the inside out.

What about you???

Just put it in my hand

Once again I bring you a sorted tale from work...
So after assisting an elderly Afro American customer through the store and all the way to the register, I proceed to ring up her merchandise. I alert her of the total and bag while she gathers her cash, and then continue to wait. As always I repeat the total due and hold my hand out (something I hate to do, it just looks and feels sooo needy), she puts the cash on the counter and nudges it towards me!!! I look at the money and then I look back at her, with a frown of course. I was appalled.
Who does that anymore?
It always really hurts and offends me when people toss, money at me or place it on the counter, especially when my hand is out and ready to receive. My anger and my hurt is taken a intensified when the culprit is Afro American. As a oppressed people we are so backwards most of the time, especially when it comes to doling out the same oppressive ways and stereotypes that were doled to us.
This is no where near 1965 Jim Crow NC, let's get it together and treat each other right. I was not even a thought then and before when Caucasians used to feel that to come in contact with an Afro American through touch would bring an end to civilization, I do know, however, that the notion is just as crazy today as it was then. I enjoy having a job right now when so many others can not say the same but one day my tongue is going to slip and I am going to remind someone of how demeaning it is to place money on the counter in any case, so that at least they can take that pearl of wisdom with them to the next store. I am a person just like you, so put the money in my hand. I find it hilarious that many Caucasian customers will sometimes go out of their way to make sure that they do put the money in my hand while Afro Americans will lay it on the counter and look at me like I have lost my marbles when I repeat the total for the third time in hopes that they will pick up the money and hand it to me.
Long story short, I think I am going to give the next person a dose of their own ignorance or I will have someone else take their money just to make my point.

Errrrrrr!!!

We are in a recession....

As I have spent more and more time in the retail industry I have come to realize that most consumers are idiots. Now let me go ahead and say this now, this entry is going to be real and raw, if I offend you... you will get over it. Like I was saying most consumers are idiots!!! We have been in a recession for the past 2 years, and the same recession that we were in yesterday is the same one that we are in today. Why come out to the mall and shop at all if all you are going to do is cry and complain in the ear of the associates about the price of the products when they have been the same for years??? I can not change the price for you and if you are not smart enough to use all the resources around you to get the best price on your product you probably should stay at home. If you truly can not afford the prices at specialty stores then I suggest you make your way to superstores such as Wal-Mart, K-mart, and Target for all of you needs in one quick stop. Or better yet when you are out buying that horrible wig piece, you know the types where all of the hair comes from front and center, nothing moves (not even in a hurricane), and looks like it is made from recycles shopping bags, pick up your lotion, lip gloss, hosiery, t-shirts, and shoes too! All too often I find myself biting my tongue instead of telling customers where they can shove their comments on our "over priced merchandise", that is actually pretty inexpensive! So ma' am and sir if you do not have the $$ do not come into the store and waist my time and disrupt the tranquility of my space.
I am just ranting... but it is true.

Crawling out from Underneath Debt

Most people, especially right now, are in debt up to and beyond their eyeballs. We were living the high life on credit and now the creditors (who were also living on credit) are calling in their loans. At my lowest point I had 6 credit cards, 3 of them major and 3 store cards and I was still applying for more!!! I was the victim of city life, I had to have the latest and greatest of everything, but what did it really do for me? Not a damn thing, except cause me unwanted stress and strain when it came time to pay up. I am very proud to say that I have since gotten that set of problems under control and have paid off all but 2 credit cards, and am happy to report that if things continue to go well I will be down to my keeper card by October!!!
It is not impossible people, however, it does take discipline and sacrifice, and lets face it if you had it you would not be in the situation are in now... right, as well as a plan. My plan included writing down all of my expenses (bills, food, entertainment, clothes, make-up...) prioritizing them (bills, food, entertainment, clothes, make-up...) and then making them fit into a budget. It is this step that people find the most difficult, because EVERYTHING is necessary... WRONG!!! Rent always came first, transportation to and from work, then my credit card bills, cable/internet/phone, food... that is usually where it ended. I had to sacrifice entertainment (clubs, movies, dinners...), new clothes and new make up (8C), but my bills were paid.
I does not have to be that way for everyone or forever!!! I wanted to do more so I got another part time, and gave up the apartment (my old roommie is still pissed at me for this but she made 2x the money I did per year...) and then I re- prioritized. It felt great to take the final payments to the bank or to the stores, or to put them into the mail.
Just remember these things:
BUDGET like CRAZY!!!!
Pay yourself FIRST- put money into a savings account first (preferably one that does not allow you access too often then divvy the rest up to bills
Lock away your credit cards, and debit cards, and use a preset amount of cash until you get your finances under control or unless you are making a large purchase.
TRY not to dip into your savings... they are your savings, duh.
Track your spending- keep receipts and analyze where your money is going and try to change it so you can keep more of it!!!
Decide which credit card(s) is/are your keeper card(s) (best for your credit if it is the card that you have had the longest and has a visa, master card, discover, amex logo on it NO store cards please) and which ones are going down.
Pay the minimum balance on the keeper card(s) ON TIME or early!!!
Pay at least 1.5 times the amount of the min balance on all other cards ($20 min balance- $30 payment); If the minimum payments are too steep call and set up a payment plan so that late payments will not affect your credit score.
PAY ON TIME!!! Pay on time, PAY ON TIME!!!
Give yourself a goal to have each card paid off and your finances under control, and stick to it!!!

You got to move it, MOVE IT!!!

A lady walks into my store asking for a cream/ serum that would firm up the skin around her belly that she accumulated from 3 separate pregnancies. After glancing down to the problem area I thought about what we had to offer for such a situation. I finally walked her over to a cellulite firming cream that we offer that begins to show results in 6 weeks and works better the longer you use it. As we both looked at the product and read the label we both knew that this was not going to do it. She said she would continue her search for a cream that would do the trick and began to look around the store for other items.
I thought to myself how do I re approach and inform her that what she really needs to do is put down the fast food, sweets, and sodas and hit the ground running... literally? It amazes me that in the midst of a recession that everyone blames for not being able to go shopping, people still find themselves at the McDonald's, Burger Kings, and other fast food outlets of the world and are wondering why their clothes no longer fit. Now, I am no saint, but I do know the value of the combination of grocery shopping and walking/jogging for 30 mins and 5 sets of 5 crunches 3-5 times a week. I can see the difference in my clothes, my energy, my mood, skin, and of course in my wallet.
So Ladies and gentlemen, load up your mp3 or 4 player up with all your favorite jams and hit the streets running. Do not forget to stretch and hydrate yourself and do not do too much too soon. In 6 weeks you will see a newer thinner, shapelier you and have some extra dollars to buy yourself something new for all of your hard work!!!

Burn baby BURN!!!

What's the dish?

As I was walking down the Streets, if you are from Durham, NC then you know where I am talking about, I noticed that some of my favorite store were offering some of my favorite products at either discounted prices or were promoting their value. So I decided to pass that on to you!
At Bath and Body Works you can get 4oz candles from home fragrance guru Harry Slatkin for $5 (normally $9.50). They burn for 25- 40 hrs and the glass jar is great as a reusable for knick knacks. My favorite fragrances are Caribbean Salsa and Fresh Balsam. Great time to stock up for graduation, hostess, baby shower, wedding... gifts and party favors! They are more creative and last longer than flowers and they smell great even when they are unlit. Also, let me not forget to mention the great deal on home fragrance oils and warmers ( buy 2 oils get a warmer for free- warmers are normally $12- $15), as well as 14.5 oz candles and host of other products at mix and match 2 for $2o (great deal because candles are normally $20 each). Do not forget to call in your survey and get $10 off your $30 and up purchase. Cha- Ching!!!
Maybelline Lash Stiletto mascara . I really like this mascara because it actually gives the illusion of longer fuller lashes, better than most pricier ones from department stores. I use it in conjunction with the ultra line liquid eyeliner. You can go to your local CVS or Rite Aid and pick these two items up at buy one get one free!!! The mascara wand is easy to use and really seems to keep clumps away, and the brush for the liner allows for versatility in the thickness and shape of your line.
The Body Shop makes a sensational eye make up remover. Chamomile Gentle eye make up remover comes in two forms; a liquid for non-water proof eye make up (AWESOME) and a cream for waterproof make up (SUPER). I have used both and come to realize that the liquid works just fine in getting off many of my waterproof eyeliners and mascaras. You can always catch me with a back up bottle under my sink... and don't let them be on sale and you may find 2! It is so easy to use just wet a cotton ball or disc, hold over eye for about 10- 15 seconds and wipe away the make up. One is usually enough for me, and it is REALLY gentle on the eyes. I can not tell you how often I get it in my eyes while cleaning and there is no irritating burn like other removers. The chamomile soothes eyes while the algae and glycerin moisturize and revitalize skin and lashes.
Of course I saved the best for last!!!

MAC Is Style Warrior!!!!
I TOTALLY love this collection. The packaging is gorgeous and so are the colors. My favorites are Vibrant grape, bright force for going dramatic at night and tempting, night maneuvers and soft force for a more neutral day look. I also can not help but luv the mineralize eye duos (Fresh green mix, Sea and Sky, and Heat element).

Let your spirits be free and Happy Sunday.

p.s- So Aveeno Positively Radiant Moisturizer... I love it too. It is really great with the Aveeno clear complexion foaming cleanser and you can get it at Costco for $20... Did I mention that it's for 2 bottles (which are normally $15 each!!! You do the math).

Beach Feet

Ladies have you ever been out and about and heard this: Ewww!!! Do you see all that crust? What was she thinking leaving her house this morning in those sandals. She should be ashamed of herself. Not even lotion could help that!!! Umm mmm mmh. Fellas you get it too: Girl, look at his toes. They look all balled and chewed up. Wait look at his heels, has he been working in salt mines all his life. Na- as- ty! his friends do not like him because they did not even suggest that he wear his basket ball shoes. Shame.

Do not be the next victim. Ladies and gentlemen please PEDICURE!!!!
It does not have to be a full out spa ordeal, but who does not love that? You purchase a few products and follow these simple steps to get beautifully smooth beach feet.

My favorite products are from Bath and body works, they work and are relatively inexpensive. They are from the True Blue Spa line designed especially for that at home spa feel. All of the foot care products are infused with that soothing eucalyptus fragrance common at many spas, as well as oh so moisturizing Shea butter. Other ingredients include: glycolic acid, walnut shell powder, and lavender extracts. Many times at your local BBW you can find the products on sale 2/$20 or try a wide variety of the products (in trial size) through a pedi- kit for $25!!!

I work manicure and pedicure time into my weekly schedule. I count it as relaxation time, I gather my comforts around me to minimize movement once the process has begun and get to work. I usually do it early in the day before I go out to do errands on my days off. I sit in my favorite spot on the couch in front of the TV with the remote nearby, tuned to my favorite station and relax.

1. Soak you feet for about 15- 20 min in" footloose and fancy fizz" foot bath using really warm to HOT water.
2. Push back the cuticles on your toe nails with a cuticle stick, use this time to cut nail down to desired length using a toe nail clipper, if necessary use a cuticle nipper to remove excess cuticle.
3. Remove calluses from the balls of your feet and near your big toe area. To do this you can use a scraper (a specially designed handled razor) or creams, such as "tough love"/ pumice stones.
4. One at a time take your feet from the water, while the other soaks and exfoliate. I use whatever body scrub I am using at the time for my feet too. I also use a pumice sponge/stone to make sure that my heels are EXTRA smooth. Work around in a circular motion until you feel that your skin is smooth and even all around.
5. Shape the nails, square or round with an emery board/ nail file. Then massage in cuticle oil/ cream "cuticle treatment" is a good cream from BBW. Rinse off and dry nails.
6. File (in one direction, back and forth leads to splitting in the nails), smooth, buff and shine nails using a four way block.*
7. Apply a nail strengthening/ hardening base coat and let it dry completely. Apply 1-3 coats of nail color (letting them dry completely between coats). Then apply a top coat.
8. After polish has dried apply moisturizer, I like "Shea it isn't so" and head out to show off your gorgeous beach feet.

*Guys you are more than welcome to continue to the following steps with base coat, or you can stop here.

How often you decide to refresh your manicure is completely between you and your feet. Love your feet and love them often.
Manicuring and pedicuring at a friends house is just as much fun as going out to the salon to get them done. Designate a house, everyone brings something to snack and sip on and play your favorite tunes in the background.

Have fun and see you at the beach.

What's in your caboodle???

Ha ha ha, do you remember the days when caboodles were all the rage, well of course you do. I had the heart, star, square, and circle shaped ones. You could not tell me anything when i had my caboodle, I carried it as a purse and used it to hold my goods. Now a days as big girls our make up cases have grown to take in a look that represents who we are, i now sport 3 sizes in brightly colored thick plastic bags from Bath and Body Works, with butterflies, and two types of flowers. One to hold all my eye make up (the largest by far), one for my face products, and then one for my brushes and tools. I have begun the search for one case to hold them all. The one you see above is the Sephora brand Midnight train case and is priced at $90, something that you do not need if you are not serious about make up, but as you can see it hold literally EVERYTHING that one would need to glam up. Check out others at www. sephora.com, www. maccosmetics.com, www.ulta.com, and www. eyeslipsface.com or take a trip to your local Target, Ross, or marshalls.
Okay before we dive head first into cases, what should you have to put into your case?
1. A facial routine is a must no matter what type skin you have, and by type I mean dry, normal, oily, combination. Your routine should consist of a cleanser, exfoliator, and a moisturizer. I recommend Aveeno Positively Radiant Cleanser and moisturizer to even out and tone skin, Clearasil cleansers and moisturizers for oily, acne prone skin, C.O. Bigelow has a variety of moisturizers, cleansers, exfoliators, and masks for all skin types (My fave products are the brown sugar crystal face polish, and the deluxe moisturizer for most skin types), St. Ives apricot scrub medicated, and Olay moisturizers, Dove pro- age cleansers and moisturizers. Look for moisturizers with SPF in them.
2. A good foundation or tinted moisturizer. One for winter and one for the summer if you are tan prone like I am. I like using a liquid and finishing it with a translucent powder or a liquid to powder combo when I do use foundation. Best picks: MAC studio fix, Maybelline Superstay Silky Foundation.
3. Concealer a good friend to long nights and sudden spots. Choose a color that is slightly lighter than your skin to cover most blemishes. The game gets more complex as you dive deeper, but we will save that for another segment. Best picks: MAC, Maybelline Instant Age Rewind double face perfector.
4. Bronzer/ Blush to highlight all of those places that the sun naturally kisses and to give you the appearance of constant modesty. So many colors out there to choose from, it's best to know what type of look you are going for and try different shades until you find the right one to purchase. Best picks: Sephora brand duo bronzer, MAC
5. EYESHADOW!!! For me this should really be it's own separate blog but here's the condensed version. Day and night colors, neutrals, metallics, colors!!! Too many to list you find what fits you best. Best picks: MAC, Urban Decay, NYX, Make Up Forever, Smashbox.
6. Lip colors and gloss. I am on the search for a really great long lasting lip color. As of right now I am sticking to glosses. Best picks: MAC lipglass, C.O. Bigelow, Sephora brand, Philosophy, Covergirl, Avon, and Mary K
7. Eyeliners. Creams, pencils, liquid, powders. Be bold use color. Best picks: The Body Shop, Maybelline, MAC, Loreal, Sephora.
8. Lipliners. Skinny and jumbo pencils. Not brown unless you are wearing a brown lip color please. Definately not black. Really great under gloss to intensify color or to create color. Best picks: MAC, Sephora,Rimmel, Clinique.
9. Lip exfoliator. Gets that grit off your lips and leaves them silky smooth kissable and ready for color. Best pick: Mary K and C.O. Bigelow.
10. Toolage. Shadow brushes (3-5), crease brush, contour brush, detail brush, blending brush, foundation brush, blush/ bronzer brush, lip brush. Best picks: MAC, Sephora, Sonia Kashuk at Target, E.L.F
11. Fragrance. I like having a fragrance for the seasons, or at least winter and spring then one for everyday. My picks: Japanese Cherry blossom, Black amethyst, Enchanted orchid, Black Currant vanilla- All from bath and body works.

Here's to the best caboodle ever. FYI Bed Bath and Beyond still sells them and they are a less expensive alternative to metal train cases, for about $25.

Casting a wider net

This spring/summer I feel that the fashion world has really neglected my legs. They have completely put hosiery on the back burner. This was a real shock to me especially since fall and winter were all about layering over tights and leggings. Hosiery is seen all over the run way on various models so why is it so difficult to find a simple pair of fishnets? I have run to all of the stores that I frequented during the fall and winter for tights and leggings in search of the spring/ summer equivalent in fishnets. I was only successful in 3 department stores Dillard's, Nordstrom, and Macy's. My local Dillard's had only 3 pairs of fishnets in nude on clearance, I bought all 3. More luck at Nordstrom and Macy's when I ran smack dab into the HUE and Jessica Simpson displays. Both offer black, white, brown and nude colors and JS offers textured fishnets. They range from $12 to $15 per pair, but they do last for quite a few wears. HUE also offers chiffon hose, which are very similar to nylons, just in a variety of bright spring/summer colors to liven up any pair of shorts or make a dress pop. These light weight breathable versions of tights are great for the warm weather seasons. I have officially become a fan of hosiery and not just my sexy thigh highs with a lacy garter belt either, the whole sha- bang.
All these colors, nets, styles for all times and still avoiding spidey veins, refreshing. Your legs say thank you.

Who knew that your mom's nylons could be so fun?

Kings on NBC, back in June

Originally the title and subject of this piece was to chastise NBC for removing Kings, an original series loosely based on books in the bible of the same name. However, after further research I have learned that NBC has not lost it's mind and sold out completely to mindless reality TV. If you like my father and I began to watch the series in March 15th and enjoyed the show fear not there will be more on King Silas Benjamin (Ian McShane, Deadwood), young soldier David Shepherd (Chris Egon, Eragon), the closeted party- boy prince Jack Benjamin (Sebastian Stan, The Covenant), and the right Reverend Ephram Samuels (Eamonn Walker, OZ). The series is produced by Michael Green, Erwin Stoff, and Francis Lawrence, the later two worked on I am Legend. Michael Green also produced NBC's Heroes another great piece that reminded us that unscripted life is not as interesting and challenging as scripted theatrics.
Thus far we have been introduced to the royal family King Silas, Queen Rose, Michelle and Jack, who live in the famed city of Shiloh. As well as David Shepherd and his family from Port Prosperity, and Reverend Samuels the Kings spiritual advisor. There are a myriad of other minor characters including the King's mistress, Jack's lover, the Queen's brother, that add to the depth of the series. There are twists and turns to every character and everyone has an ulterior motive. Reading the books of the bible give a loose outline and understanding of the terms and places that you hear, as the characters speak in the olde style, but once again it is a loose interpretation of these books.
I am highly excited that I no longer have to begin my letter writing campaign to save this series, and that my Sunday nights are once again filled with great TV.

For more information, bios, and a synopsis of the series visit www.nbc.com/kings.

Happy surfing.

Whoops my bad...

As one can see from the lack or recent posts I have been away from the computer (at least my blog) for a bit. I, however, have very good reason for this and am prepared to explain. I was out last weekend (Thursday until Sunday) being fabulous celebrating one of my besties turning 25!!!
We partied hearty this past weekend because 25 is a big, BIG deal. I mean FABULOUS. We were mistaken for MAC artists, and other women were constantly complimenting our clothes, shoes, and hair. It was great back on the scene like we used to do all those years ago when we all lived in the area. Hair was popped and glowing from long curled tresses on the birthday girl, mid cuts and pixies and my fro. We looked like we stepped out of a movie or TV show, glamorous. What can I say it's just how we get down.
As the weekend came to the end and we were ushered back into the working week all going our separate ways, we began to think... WOW we are/ are going to be 25 this year!!! Where has the time gone? Then we thought about all of the years that we have known each other and all of the things that we have gotten into together. Ahh, the good old days of old. Are we too old now to be out all night, knowing that we have to be at work the next morning? Does 25 really mean that we only have a few more years to cut up and act a fool?
Well even if that is the case at least I know I have a few more birthdays that will only get more and more fabulous as we get older and more settled into our lives as adults. So here's to May 30, June 3 and August 30!!! to the rest of you that can rep the year or the Best born:1984... HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

We are taking 25 by storm.

Summer Shoe Trends

If you are anything like me then your closet(s) are over run with shoes and dresses and shoes and jeans... did I mention shoes?!?!?
You can not help it because these things look great on you, and if they do not... well that is another post so stay tuned...
Well nothing looks better on you, no matter your weight, height, age... than shoes!!!
They can turn a fitted t-shirt, jeans, and bag from Saturday yard selling to brunch with the gals, to dinner with your guy to cocktail night with the crew at your local bar.
This summer there are so many different ways to express yourself through shoes from bohemian inspired to wonder woman wedges.
Summer has taken on the natural color scheme. While strolling through your favorite department store at your local mall, or the pages of your favorite on-line store, you will see a myriad of naturals- creams, beiges, and tans which are great paired with whites and brights.
Popular styles include bohemian(beads, stones, feathers), metallics (esp. silver and gold), collar and cuff sandals, hardware detailing( zippers, buckles, clasps...), gladiators( flat, heeled, plain, bedazzled; they have taken on a whole new attitude), and wedges( wood, cork, so many styles, so much comfort).

While out and about expanding my shoe universe I came across some noteworthy shoes
1. Alga by BCBGirls in yellow and brown leather; 3 1/2 heel; Sling- backed, t- strapped, platform. See picture above.
2. Pharon by Gianni Bini in brown leather with orange, red, and coral fabric. 3 in heel. Muled open toe.
3. Gianna by Boutique 9 in cream low heel(1-2") wedge cuffed sandal
4. El Greco by BP in pewter; gladiator styled flat
5. Myth3 by Nine West 4 1/2 in wedge, Yellow and natural synthetic and leather
6.Snowball by Nine West 4in sling back peep toe pump in blue leather
7. Sheik by Nine West 4in strappy sandal heel in light gold leather
8. Dune by BCBG Maxazaria 4.3in hidden platform heel in taupe or pink leather

Where to buy:
DSW.com Nordstom
Zappos.com Macy's
Shoes.com Nine West
Shoemall.com Belk
6pm.com Dillards

As always happy shopping, and don't break the bank.

Young Professional and Fashionable

Yes, it is Spring time, although lately it has felt as if Summer had reared it's blazing hot head, and we all know what that means, EXPOSURE!!!! Skin fest here we come, right? WRONG. It is 6:45 pm and you have yet to decide what to wear to work, that expresses your inner Spring you. You work in a high profile office (or not) and flip flops and that pair of khaki cargo shorts, no matter how embellished, heeled, or starched they maybe, are not gonna cut it! At this point you need to pull out the tried and tested black suit that every school told you was the standard dress for any job and get to work on time, just know we are headed shopping at 5pm, sharp!
So you made it through morning meetings, brunch, afternoon meetings, lunch, conference calls, and evening meetings. Did I mention meetings? Oh I did, okay so you know better than anyone what you need... Shopping!

Here's what we are looking for:
GUYS:
-Classic suits in grays, blues
- Sports coats in varying textures and materials that are season appropriate (now is not the time for velvet, who wears that to the office anyway?)
- Crisp polos in pastels
- Button down in lighter hues, save the bright colors and busy patterns for the club buddy
- Cardigans are in so wear them, they come in a variety of shades and are slightly more versatile than that heavier sports coat
- Pants in lighter cotton blends are cool and breathable look for tans, grays, blues
- The shoe standard is still hard soled and leather; colors slightly adventurous grays, blues, browns (see a pattern here); NO white socks boys!
- Ties are still the easiest way to add flare to your ensemble. There are so many possibilities. Color and pattern blending is definitely great and really eye catching.

Ladies:
- Suits, look for classic lines with added flare, like a tulip or pleated skirt. Many are sold in separates that give a pant and skirt option, get both and double your wardrobe instantly! Colors such as grays, browns, greens and blues are to start with as a base. Remember ladies skirts should come to the knee or right (1- 11/2 inches) above the knee.
- Blazers or the jackets from your suits are great paired with pants and skirts and for after 5 fun they are great with jeans too! Your suit skirt can also go from day to night with a neckline adjustment before you head out on the town.
- Twinsets are awesome! they can be paired with pants or skirts and allow for a more casual alternative to a suit while still looking tailored and professional. You will be a knock out in a cute demin skirt and highly trendy in a great fitting pair of jeans on the weekends too.
- Pumps (and diamonds) are a woman's best friend... especial a 9 to 5 woman. However, before you run out and justify your next Jimmy Choo purchase take this to mind. Pumps should be 2.5 to 3 inches high and very comfortable (the better they are constructed the more comfortable). Look for classic refined heel styles with a slightly rounded point toe. For you ladies the color burst wide open, do be sensible, neon yellow with fuchsia and orange flowers is not office appropriate!!! Steer clear of the strappy sandals and keep the 4 inch heels in the trunk for the club.
- Accessories are the icing on the cake... and by cake I mean you! Do not over do it, you are still going to work. You do not have to wear complete sets, give your self some room to wiggle. Keep some classic pieces like pearls, and diamonds, but look for those defining pieces as well. Earrings should be no larger than dimes or nickles and should hang no lower than the chin (1- 11/2 inches). Necklaces allow for more liberty but should be worn underneath the jacket, blazer or cardigan above the shell or blouse. When I think of bracelets and rings the standard is watch (1) and ring (1) on the hand you do not write with and bracelet (1) or bangles (3) and ring (1) on the hand that you do use to write. There is no need to come to work looking like that lady at the bar that wears EVERY single piece of jewelry that she owns... that is CRAZY and tacky.
- Colors are necessary and look great in moderation and when blended properly. A splash of color really livens up and adds depth to a wardrobe. A fuchsia blouse underneath a gray suit with green, yellow and/ or blue accessories really makes it pop! Great colors for spring include pastels, minty greens, candy pinks, tropical corals, deep sea blues, sunny yellows, and bright oranges.
Patterns are great as long as they are not too busy or there are not too many of them.
- Bags should be multifunctional. There is no need to two large bags, one on each shoulder, you will look like a bag lady. Look for one bag that is large enough for a pair of cute flats, a clutch or large wallet, a cosmetic bag and your laptop. The clutch and shoes you can change into for lunch and who does not need a cosmetic bag? Remember your bag does not have to match your shoes, that matches your belt, that matches your earrings!!! Steer clear of Betty boop, chains, and rhinestones... how old are you? 22+, enough said.

Just remember with pattern mixing one pattern should be the focus so it will be larger and bolder than the other.

After along day of shopping go home turn on your ihome and rock out to your favorite tunes while putting away your new duds and running some hot bathwater with lots of bubbles and lavender and/or eucalyptus while sipping on some chilled riesling... mmm yeah.

Tips for a successful interview

While at work a couple days ago a young woman enters the store, and as usual for any entering customer I say "Hi! Welcome to ____". She smiles and continues to walk towards me and my co- worker. I then ask her what she is look for and she replies that she is here for the 3pm interview. I do not know anything about the interview, so I turn to my co- worker that immediately looks at her watch and then at the young woman and says that it was a group interview that started at 3pm and is now closed. The young woman looks a bit taken back as if she did not understand what just happened and asks if there was anyone that she could call to reschedule and the response was no due to the fact that the store manager was the one that gave the instruction. She says thank you and walks out. At this point I have just finished picking my face up off the floor, not because the girl was 15 minutes late, but because she came in a gray jersey knit tunic t shirt, white legging and pink jelly flip flops. WTF!!!

I do not care what the job is there is certain way that you approach an interview and that was not it. Since, common sense is not so common here are a few tips for a successful interview:

Before you arrive:
1. Do some homework. Know about the company and the position for which you are applying. Look online for mission statements, job requirements/duties, any useful figures and future plans. Wow your interviewer with your zest and zeal for the company and desired position.

2. Notice the attire of the current employees and your prospective employer. This is the basis for which you determine what to wear to the interview. If a uniform is worn assume business casual attire.

3. Jot down a couple of questions that you may have for the interviewer. There is ALWAYS a question and answer portion of the interview. This is usually easier after doing the homework mentioned above.

4. Be prepared. If possible, have an extra copy of your resume, references, and the application. Do not forget to have available proof of any certifications that you listed in the application and resume. Best practice it to have a pen and a note pad to jot down any key points that were learned from the interview as well as dates and times.

5. Dress to impress! This is not the same impress advertised at the club. After noticing what your prospective employer wears try to step it up a notch. As the saying goes dress for the job you want not the one you have or the lack there of... First impressions are key.
DO NOT BY ANY MEANS wear anything that is tight, sheer, denim, beach or lounge wear, ill- fitting, too short, non- fashionable, or too loud. Also remember to cover tattoos, and remove piercings.

6. Turn your cell phone off or to silent!!! Think about what is more important, the interviewer or you friend asking about what happened on 24 last night.

In the interview:
7. The interview starts from the moment you walk through the doors, so be on your best behavior. All eyes are on you from everywhere and everyone will have an opinion. Greet everyone you meet with a nice firm handshake.

8. Lean in and appear attentive while the interviewer is speaking. Slouching or fidgeting is a sign that you are bored or not interested.

9. Maintain eye contact with the interviewer when they are speaking and when you are answering questions.

10. Be positive when answering questions about previous employers and co- workers.

11. Use relevant experiences from past jobs to show your skill for the desired position.

12. Be honest when answering questions about experiences and skill levels.

13. Above all stay calm and confident.

Do not sell yourself short. Market yourself to employers like you would a luxury vehicle or posh real estate. You are worth it, just make them believe it too and that job is as good as yours!!!
Happy hunting

Shopping Etiquette 101

Before I jump into today's lesson in shopping, I need to talk about a couple observations in shopping.

In today's society we are so used to running to a Target, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, and the like when we need to pick up a few items here and there pointing and clicking online, that we have forgotten what it is like shopping in a place where there are associates to serve the customer face to face. I can not tell you how often it seems as if customers are surprised and frankly a bit apprehensive when they walk into the store I work at and are acknowledged.
Here are some quick tips to remember to take the edge off shopping in a customer service environment, so you do not look like a deer in headlights or come off as rude; They are not always nice, but I guarantee that your next shopping experience will be way better than the last.

1. When going shopping, GET OFF OF THE PHONE!!!- If you think that it is rude for the associate to talk to you while you are on the phone, I promise you the associate thinks that it is rude for you to want their attention while you are talking to someone else. When you get to the door of the store you plan on shopping in let your caller know that you have to call them right back so you can focus.

2. When acknowledged by an associate LISTEN to what they are saying and answer accordingly. "Welcome to______" does not elicit "No, I do not need any help" as a reply, instead go with a simple "Thank You", "Hi", or "Hello". Starting the shopping relationship off on the right foot gets you ALOT farther than treating the associate, who is also a person, like they do not exist. No response is just as bad if not worse, no one likes to be ignored.

3. When asked "What it is you are shopping for?" or "What brings you in today?", it is okay to actually tell the associate. The associate has been trained to find out what you want and get you there as painlessly as possible as well as let you know how, where, and when to use it. Saying just looking just makes the associates job more painful because they have to go through a series of questions to find out what you need and if they can not do it trust me you will be passed off to someone who can. Plus, it saves you time looking confused when you do not see the item in the same location it was last time you stopped by.

4. Killing time??? Please do not do it in a small specialty shop and chains, especially if you really have no intention of buying anything at all. Many of these have goals that they are expected to reach everyday, week, month and quarter, including conversion. Conversion is the percentage derived from the number of people that enter a store versus the number of transactions that a store has. If you walk into or walk in and out in and out waiting for your friend to get a prescription filled next door, the conversion for the store goes down. That is why at certain times and stores the associates are really really REALLY interested in you making that purchase right now, today.

5. People people people, when a company gets rid of a product/item they usually do it for good reason... to keep the business afloat. Now if it happened to be your favorite then you should do two things 1. contact the company... not your local store and find out why and if you can still get it and 2. Try something new. It's free to try and it never hurts to update your style. I love the 80's but I can not wear day-glow shoes forever. Just remember that it is not the manager or associates fault.

6. Create a separate email account for coupons and promotions from companies so you are always in the know and can get those freebies and discounts. I set one up signed up for email and received coupons for free products within a few days!!! This way you keep them out of your personal daily email, but still get the perks, and everyone loves perks. At many stores the more you use your coupons and/give your email/ phone number the more or more tailored the coupons are to you. No one is going to take the time out to call you, who has that time?

7. READ the fine print or ask questions. There is almost always a stipulation to any deal. However, it is usually listed right there on the same sign as the deal only in smaller print or those same associates that we spoke of earlier will explain it to you... if you ask.

8. FINE PRINT... stores in chains do not make up pricing. So getting angry with the associate that explained it to you, the cashier that is ringing you up or the manager is not going to help at all. if you do not like the pricing policies (also applies to return/ exchange policies) contact corporate they have the final say in those matters.

9. Stores want to sell you things. They want you to put your money in them. They DO NOT hoard things in the back so that you can not buy it. Associates have to make their purchases at the beginning or end of their shift or if they get to clock out for break. When someone goes to the back to look for an item that may not have made it to the floor but comes back empty handed... it is not there. Many stores will look up the item at another store if possible for you, just ask.

10. Just ask. This applies to all aspects of life. You will never know unless you ask, so just go ahead and do it.

This is just 10 in a list of 1000's so stay tuned.
Take these with you and shop better.
